Why You Should Be Wearing Sunglasses
According to Monji Optometry, you should wear sunglasses, even if it’s just for comfort. Maybe you don’t feel like the sun bothers you eyes all that much, but protection between those UV rays and your eyes could even save your future vision. You don’t have to have prescription glasses, but if you need a prescription they can be a convenient addition to your eyeglass collection.
It never hurts to have a backup pair of sunglasses on hand, prescription or not. Keep a pair in your vehicle so you have some on hand, just in case you forget to grab your normal pair when you’re heading out the door. Or, this is also good if when you leave the sky is overcast, but it doesn’t stay that way.
Sunglasses For Everyone
Even little eyes need sun protection. For adults, your eyes can somewhat filter those UV rays, even when you aren’t protecting your eyes with sunglasses. However, the younger you are the less your eyes will do this for you, making sunglasses even more important for kids and teens.
The key to buying sunglasses is to make sure you’re not just simply getting tinted lenses. You want them to actually have UV protection. If you spend a lot of time doing sports, and even fishing, you also may want polarized lenses which will help you see clearer.
Picking The Right Pair
You need those sunglasses to be protecting your eyes from the sun, so if you are picking a pair that are tiny and fashionable they may not be doing the work you want them to. The bigger the better, since they will give you more coverage for protecting your vision.
If you have prescription glasses and you don’t want to have to buy a completely different pair of prescription sunglasses, find out if your particular frames have a clip on available. You can sometimes find universal sunglasses clip ons for different shapes of glasses and frame types.
Damage To Your Eyes From The Sun
Not only do you risk damage to your eyesight by not wearing sunglasses or some sort of eye protection from the sunlight, but you also risk getting cancer in your eyes and even on your eyelids. The skin on your eyelids is very thin and delicate, and susceptible to cancer just like the skin all over your body.
You can add extra protection by wearing a hat with a rim when you are spending a lot of time out in the sunshine. You may even want to put some sunscreen on your eyelids. But never forget to wear your sunglasses.
Sunglasses are needed all year around, as well. The sun still shines in the winter. Plus, the reflection off the snow from the sunlight can be extra painful to people with sun sensitive eyes.
