Many women experience stomach bloating before and during their monthly period. But apart from this normal PMS symptom linked to hormonal changes, there are other factors that can cause a bloated tummy. Others suffer from the condition when they eat too much or they’re not able to release their body wastes.
An irritable bowel syndrome can cause this problem. Oftentimes, this is accompanied by back pain particularly on the left side, constipation or diarrhea. The condition also tends to worsen towards the evening.
Flatulence is another reason. Sometimes, you may only notice yourself but you’re actually passing wind often. Although this is considered normal, there might be an underlying condition that’s also causing this and that you need to find out. More serious conditions that could lead to a bloated tummy are coeliac disease and ovarian cancer.
Experiencing this bloating tummy condition can make one very uncomfortable and even restless as one feels his stomach to be full and tight. But being only temporary, you can find ways to solve this problem the natural way.
Get Rid of Certain Habits
If you have certain habits that involve swallowing of air, you need to avoid them moving forward. These habits include blowing chewing gums, smoking, drinking liquids using a straw and even talking while eating. Instead of the gum, choose a hard candy or healthy snacks.
Do remember to eat slowly and chew your food properly. Why rush when you can enjoy your food? Contrary to the 15-minute mealtime many people believe, the experts say meals should take up to half an hour.
Remember that the air you take in can cause your stomach to bloat that can make you pass gas more often than usual.
Eat a High Fiber Diet
Be sure to eat foods that are high in fiber and consume more water. Get your dose of fiber from fruits, veggies, legumes, nuts, seeds and whole grains. Your water intake should be up to eight glasses every day. Avoid soft drinks as well as the fizz in them can cause gas.
You may also opt to eat smaller meals instead of the normal three big meals in a day. Did you know that frequent eating can help control hunger and even one’s blood sugar?
Avoid Starch Food
Starch food refers to macaroni, pasta, noodles and bread among others. If possible, you should refrain from consuming them particularly before bedtime.
Exercise Regularly
Finally, engage in some physical activity on a regular basis. This will prevent constipation that often causes a bloated tummy. Do this for half an hour each day five times in a week.
