Your wedding is supposed to be the happiest day of your life, so why does planning it seem like the cause of white hairs and migraines? Stressing about the wedding day is normal, but there are ways to alleviate the stress so you don’t have a total breakdown on your groom. Included here are a few things to do to keep your stress to a minimum during the planning stages of your wedding.
Leave Them To It
This applies to your venue, your caterer and any other vendors. Everyone you hire should be capable of performing the day of without you micromanaging the whole way. Choose a venue that is run by people you trust, with caterers whose food you know you love. Let all of your special requests and needs be known when you place your order and then… leave them to it. No one likes a bridezilla and it is a surefire way to give yourself a few extra white hairs in the planning process.
Journal
One of the reasons people suffer from stress so profusely is that they refuse to let things go. Past mistakes, problems or upcoming events weigh heavily upon their shoulders and beat them down. Consider starting a journal to get you through the wedding planning stress. Everyday write down the things that went wrong, or right, and move forward. Close the journal on that day and remember that tomorrow is a new one. You are sure to be feeling more relaxed and relieved in the process.
Tune Down the Rehearsal Dinner
Some couples make the dreadful mistake of turning their rehearsal dinner into a blowout of its own. This is a great way to be feeling incredibly burned out and less than enthused on your wedding day. Tune your rehearsal dinner down, make it a casual affair and let someone else handle any scheduling problems with it. All you need to do is show up, run through your lines, eat some good food and enjoy a little nostalgia and excitement the day before your wedding.
Soak in the Tub
Water is one of the five elements and a critical way of grounding yourself during moments of anxiety. Consider taking a long soak in the tub in the evenings to relax your muscles and focus your mind. Adding a cup of epsom salts to the water with lavender oil will help you relax and replenish electrolytes in your system. This is a great method to encourage sleep at night, just be sure you don’t revisit any thoughts about the wedding or look at screens after you soak.
Schedule Relaxation
Yes, you already have a packed schedule. But if you don’t schedule a little time to invest in yourself, and your mental and emotional well-being, you may have a breakdown when you were supposed to be at a dress alteration. If you need to take a day within the week of the wedding to get a massage, read a book and refocus, do it! No one will appreciate you being a ball of nerves the day-of and you may need time to look at the big picture.
