How much sleep do you get a night? If you aren’t getting enough sleep, for whatever reason, it can affect the way the you act, work, and it can even cause you to get into accidents. While the amount of sleep you need varies per person, there are some general amounts to help get you started on the right amount of sleep.
Six to eight hours is the general amount of sleep needed for an adult. But you need to get a good night’s sleep. Interrupted sleep is pretty much just as bad as not getting any sleep at all.
Reducing Stress And Stressful Thoughts
Many people that have trouble getting to sleep at night, and find themselves suffering from insomnia, have these troubles because of stress. Thinking of all of the busy things you have to do each day, about your kid’s bad grades, and about the repairs your car needs, can all cause troubles sleeping at night.
One way to help battle stress that is keeping you awake at night is to keep a journal, where you can write down the stuff that is keeping you up. Write a list of the things you are worried about forgetting to do, or just write down the stuff that is stressing you out so that you can work on letting it go.
Watching Your Diet
What you eat before bed may also affect your ability to sleep. Don’t eat heavy meals right before you go to sleep, and don’t eat a lot of sugar or drink caffeine, which can keep you awake. You may even notice that some foods give you weird dreams!
Instead, don’t eat anything within the last couple hours before bed, and definitely don’t drink a lot before bed, or you’ll be getting up to use the restroom often.
The Importance Of A Good Night Sleep
If you are running on little sleep it can cause health issues. Not only are you taking away time your body uses to heal, you are also increasing your risk of accidents. Your brain on little sleep can cause you not to think properly and it can slow down your reaction time.
Your body heals itself during sleep, which means that you need to get a good night of rest every night if you want to be at your healthiest. If you have trouble getting to sleep, or staying asleep, talk to your doctor about things that may be able to help.
Natural ways to assist in sleep include drinking tea close to bedtime, as certain herbs can help you relax and get to sleep. You may also want to soak in a bath with lavender or chamomile will help you relax as well.
