Everybody gets a headache once in awhile. It’s what causes your headache that determines how you need to deal with it. There are numerous different types of headaches, from tension headaches to migraines.
While you may need to seek medical attention for your headaches, depending on how bad they are, there are things you can do at home to help alleviate them. For people who suffer from migraines on a regular basis, a prescription medication may be the only answer. But, that doesn’t mean that you can’t still try an at-home remedy that’s more natural and less invasive.
Rest
If you simply have a small headache coming on, that doesn’t really feel like anything major, you may be able to get it to subside or go away simply by taking a little nap. The best naps are no more than 20 minutes long, anything more will make you just more tired, and anything less just won’t do.
If you suffer from migraines, sleeping is probably one of the best things for you as well. Not because sleeping is actually going to get rid of your headache, but that silence and the lack of light will help make your headache not hurt quite as bad.
Turn Off The Lights And TV
While some of the essential oils and diet changes you are going to read about in a little bit will help you out with migraine headaches, the best thing at home to do is to spend some time in a darker environment, shut off your phone, turn off the lights, and just take a nice long rest period
If you have medication for your migraines, make sure that you take it as recommended, and if the recommendation is to take them when you start to feel the headache coming on, don’t hesitate. For people with really bad migraines, they can lay someone up for days.
Try Essential Oils
Essential oils are medical must have for anyone suffers from headaches of any time. There is a type of essential oil that can help you with any type of thing. If you suffer from migraines, things like lavender, eucalyptus, and peppermint can all help with your headache issues.
Some of these oils, like peppermint, can help with nearly any kind of headache. Plus it’s a great oil to help with stress relief. If you suffer from sinus headaches, try eucalyptus oil or even tea tree oil. The minty scent can really help clear out your sinuses.
Start out by trying to figure out exactly what it is that is causing your headache, and you will have a better chance at dealing with them. If your headaches are allergy induced, you may need to start taking an allergy medication, or eating a different diet that is more prone to stopping allergies. Foods like honey or one way that people use to get rid of their allergies.
