But while there are superfoods you can consume any time you want these days, did you know that there are also the tiny ones that are beneficial to people? And what are these? They’re called the super seeds.
Despite their tiny size, these seeds make a big difference in a person’s health. Nutritionists call them nutrition powerhouses because the nutrients they provide per square inch are much more than what people normally eat. It’s fairly easy to use them as you just need to sprinkle them on your salads or add in your favorite smoothies.
Chia Seeds
Chia (salvia hispanica) is a flowering plant that belongs to the mint family. It grows abundantly in the central and southern parts of Mexico as well as in Guatemala.
An annual herb, chia is grown commercially for its seed. The seeds which are rich in omega 3 fatty acids yield about 25 to 30 percent extractable oil including the a-linolenic acid (ALA).

Flax seeds are popular for their omega 3 fatty acid. Being so, they provide a lot of benefits such as preventing cancer and heart diseases as well as fighting depression and reducing inflammation.
Hemp Seeds
Tiny as they may be but these seeds are loaded with fiber. Fiber, as many of you already know, helps speed up metabolism and thereby has a great potential in maintaining a person’s figure.
Hemp is one of the most nutritious plants in the world rich in amino acids as well as vitamin E, magnesium, iron and potassium. It is commonly used by vegans and those on raw food diet. Hemp seeds can be used by sprinkling over salad, topping on puddings, granola and other desserts.
Pumpkin Seeds
These are common seeds from squash that are also great for snacks. Don’t underestimate them because they are rich in iron and contain about nine grams of protein. Iron is good for the blood and for energy.
Pomegranate Seeds
Pomegranate seeds contain lots of vitamin C and not only that because they also help in lowering a person’s fat. In addition, this seed is beneficial in improving a person’s metabolism.
These seeds are low in calories, high in fiber, phytochemicals which can help prevent cancer and vitamin K which is important in keeping healthy bones and in proper blood circulation.
Sesame Seeds
Sesame seeds are known to have the highest oil content the reason why it has been used as a top ingredient in many international cuisines. Some people, however, experience allergic reactions owing to the seed’s nutty flavor and properties.
