In these cases, advertisers prey off of people’s feelings to want to get better and often do very little other than have a placebo effect.

When it comes to people’s health, they are often conflicted about following science versus following anecdotes. Science suggests concrete things about how to get better when you have ailments. Anecdotes will often seem much simpler and perhaps rational because of who told you, but it’s possible to become seriously ill or even die by following folk methodology instead of real medicine.
