When you’re suffering from pain it can be hard to sleep at night. Pain can keep you away, and it can sometimes feel worse at night. It’s at night when you are most relaxed and your mind is more open, so you are thinking more about the throbbing or stabbing pain, instead of distracted from it.
When you’re down with a migraine you just want to close your eyes, but the pain keeps sleep from coming. When you have a toothache you want to sleep away the ache, but it pounds harder when you lay down. Instead of dealing with the pain, whether it’s head, back, neck, or leg pain, here are some things that might help you get through the night with extra sleep instead of less of it.
Invest In A Better Bed
A better bed is one great answer to your sleepless nights no matter what it is that is keeping you up at night. Not everyone can afford a fancy bed, though. But, if you can, look into things like sleep numbers and memory foam.
You need to pay attention to the firmness of a mattress. For some people a firm mattress is perfect, for others, a softer mattress is a must.
Change Your Pillows
Your pillows could be the cause of neck pain, upper back pain, and even headaches. Pillows can also cause allergen problems, but you can purchase ones that help fight off allergy issues. As far as pains, take a little time to investigate what pillow type might be best for you.
Much like mattresses, pillows come in soft and go all the way up to firm. You might want a specialty pillow that is made to help with neck pain.
Try Guided Meditation
Guided meditation and visualization are used in pain relief all the time. These things help you take your mind off the pain and relax. Consider doing a guided meditation each night before you go to bed.
You can find guided meditations made for whatever ails you. Do a quick search on YouTube and you’ll be sleeping soundly in no time. Even if you just need to relax you can use this natural remedy.
Use Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy can also help with both pain relief and with sleeping. If you suffer from headaches, of any kind, an aroma diffuser could be the answer to your sleeping issues. Which aromas you use will depend on your issue.
Eucalyptus can help with headache pain, while lavender is all around relaxing for whatever ails you. Peppermint can also help with headaches. While natural oils can be a little pricey they are well worth the investment, and you can always buy a cheaper small diffuser.
